Any products out there to get less body???Every time I have my hair down in front of a "new person" they stare and say, "Oh my, you have a lot of hair!"
Personally, I have the darnedest time getting my fine, but plentiful hair to do anything other than frizz up into a messy fluff nest. I called on one of Prevention's favorite hair stylists, . "If you want less volume, the key is to keep adding more product to your hair," he says. "As long as it doesn't start getting greasy--keep layering products that help smooth down strands so they lay flat." Here are his top tips to turn down the volume on big hair:
1. Rinse, don't shampoo. Stripping away all the oil from your hair will make it light and more likely to fluff. Instead of shampoo, just rinse hair to refresh it, then use conditioner and a regular hair mask to leave smoothing ingredients on the strands.
2. Brush when wet. Carefully, brush or comb hair while it's still wet. Brushing when dry can cause frizz. Use a brush with both boar and plastic bristles because boar bristles alone are hard to pull through lots of hair and a plastic brush alone can create static.
3. Drag hair down. While you blowdry, skip round brushes which can add shape and lift. Instead, use a flat brush to hold hair taut in a downward direction, drying in small sections. Before bed, pull hair into a ponytail that's tight on the sides to help flatten further.
4. Apply root to tip. For styling, use a smoothing cream like Revolution in Cut Style My Cut Smooth Me or Wella Enrich Straight Leave-In Cream and apply it from the roots to the tips of your hair. Do this both before and after drying, pulling strands downward as you apply, and layering on more when needed.
5. Get a thinning cut. Make sure your stylist is familiar with thinning shears. Pipino uses them to thin out bulk at the bottom of the hair, but you don't want a stylist the uses them toward the roots or the too short hairs will give your style lift at the top of your head.
